The Aristocrat Pear tree is a beautiful tree that is attractive in all four seasons. It produces masses of white flowers in early spring, followed by bright, glossy green, disease resistant foliage. Leaves turn a deep to reddish-purple in mid to late fall to provide spectacular fall color. Home owners and landscapers place this tree in prominent locations because of the year around beauty it provides.

SEMI-MATURE SHADE TREES

The Autumn Blaze Pear has a distinct beautiful rounded shape that distinguishes it from other pears. It has white flowers in spring, dark glossy foliage, and brilliant red fall color. It prefers moist, well-drained soils of average fertility in full sun, but is adaptable to poor soils, compacted soils, dry soils, and heat.

Characteristics include a vigorous growth rate, a strong central leader, excellent branching character, and a uniform upright habit. Fall color is an interesting mottled blend, ranging from combinations of red and green, to burgundy, yellow and gold, depending on temperature changes and site conditions. The ‘Marmo’ Maple is has a lot of similarities as the “Autumn Blaze” and is very adaptable to heavy clay soils.


The autumn blaze maple tree has a unique combination of good traits from the red maple and silver maple. The qualities mixed by the autumn blaze maple tree are orange-red color in the fall, dense and healthy branching, and enhanced growth that protects from insects and disease. The tree will grow to fifty or sixty feet tall and have a mature spread of thirty to forty feet. This maple was name urban tree of the year in 2003.

The Pacific Sunset Maple has brilliant fall color, which emerges earlier in the season than other varieties. The Pacific Sunset is an excellent smaller maple tree. Its fine textured branch structure evolves to a rounded crown and it has a mature height of about 30 feet and a spread of about 25 feet. Outstanding glossy, dark green summer foliage changes to tints of red, yellow, and orange in the fall.

The Emerald Lustre is a fast-growing tree with excellent branching structure and produces dense shade in the summer. Emerald Lustre is a vigorous selection that forms a dense rounded canopy which makes it a favorite of those searching out a great shade tree. The fall color is yellow. At maturity it will have a height of about 45-55 feet and a spread of about 40-55 feet.

Crimson King Maples have excellent dense maroon red foliage all summer. Straight trunk with a well shaped crown. A Crimson king will give you dense shade when mature. The leaves on a Crimson King are similar in shape to a Sugar Maple. Crimson King will attain a height of 50' or more and are hardy from zone 4-7. The tree is easily transplanted, and is adapted to a wide variety of soils including alkaline, sand, clay and acid soils.

The Swamp White Oak is one of the most under used shade trees in our area. This tree, as the name might suggest, will normally inhabit areas surrounding swamps. This gives us another option to use it in wet areas where before we typically were limited to Willows or Alders. One of the highlights of the Swamp White Oak is the deeply furrowed to exfoliating bark. Fall color is typically a yellow or bronze color.

The Tulip Tree grows 80 to 100 feet tall and maintains a fairly narrow oval crown. It is in flower from June to July. It is noted for attracting wildlife. Plants prefer well drained, acidic soil. Drought conditions in summer can cause premature defoliation of interior leaves which turn bright yellow and fall to the ground, especially on newly-transplanted trees. It will not tolerate very wet or very dry situations.
